Rhythmic Composition Activity
Lesson 3: Composition
This activity is intended for a 9-12 music class
This lesson involves composition and performance using the website flat.io. Students will need computers/chromebooks for this assignment. The goal is to have students create a 4 bar rhythm using the allowed notes (depending on what the teacher prefers) and submit it/share with the teacher through flat.io. Students will then check in with the teacher to make sure their composition is error free. Using flat.io, teachers are able to look at their student's work in real time and give comments directly on their compositions. Teachers can also check students' work in person.
After the compositions are complete, the teacher will share the rhythms at the front of the class. These rhythms can now be used as rhythm practice. Next, we can add solfege and do the hand signs along with the rhythms. This activity now encompasses composition, rhythm practice, and sight singing practice.
